This picture was
taken in 1975, just before the Park beaurocrats created the present monstrosity
at a
part of the beach
which has so much historical background and significance.
Traditionally, this area was the MEETING point for everyone at the Beach
at train times and before and in the evenings while the Dance Hall operated.
If you wanted to meet someone at "THE FRONT", this is where you met. The
little white building was the SUPERINTENDENT'S OFFICE. It was located
right at the end of the END OF TRACKS to Grand Beach.
The lady standing in front of the office is my late wife Verna. It
was a spring day, the ice had just disappeared, and we had enjoyed
a long walk along the beach nostalgically reflecting about our earlier
and more pleasant years that we had enjoyed at Grand Beach. She left
to be with our Lord in January of 1979. I still miss here very much.
The door of the building was changed from the left side of the little building
to the front by the Parks, who used it for a while prior to building their
present building. Certainly, the Canada Railway News, who operated the
beach for the Canadian National Railways were very efficient, because this
little building contained all the managers and office staff.
The Grand Beach Cottage owners association say that it is presently among
the cottages and other buildings that the Parks have plundered and placed
in their "COMPOUND". near the old Trestle Bridge. There was some talk that
the Parks were going to renovate it and bring it back to the picnic area
close to the Parks office. Wishful Thinking? C'est la guerre - in
the name of progress. Wouldn't it have been GRAND, if it had been repaired,
renovated and left in place as a memento to a glorious period of Grand
Beach History.
